BMW is opening a new chapter in its history. The company has officially announced that, effective May 14, 2026, Milan Nedeljković will take over as Chairman of the Board of Management, succeeding Oliver Zipse as the head of the company’s operational leadership. The decision was made by BMW’s Supervisory Board and represents a carefully planned, long-term leadership transition.
Oliver Zipse has led BMW since 2019, navigating the company through an exceptionally challenging period. During his tenure, BMW had to respond simultaneously to global economic uncertainty, the effects of the pandemic, and the rapid technological transformation of the automotive industry. Under Zipse’s leadership, the company remained stable while consistently advancing its electric and digital strategies.
His successor, Dr.-Ing. Milan Nedeljković, is widely regarded as a true “BMW veteran.” He began his career at the company in 1993 as a trainee and has since held numerous key leadership positions over more than three decades. A member of BMW’s Board of Management since 2019, he is currently responsible for production a critical area for the introduction of new models and the implementation of the company’s electric transition. His professional background, engineering mindset, and extensive industrial experience make him a logical choice to lead BMW into the future.
According to the Supervisory Board, Nedeljković’s strategic perspective, strong execution capabilities, and experience in resource management will be essential in the years ahead. BMW is pursuing an ambitious roadmap, planning to introduce more than 40 new or updated models by 2027, including the first vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform, which will define the company’s electric future. This represents not only a technological challenge, but also a significant organizational and manufacturing transformation one in which effective leadership will be crucial.
The appointment sends a clear message that BMW sees continuity and internally developed leadership as key to long-term success. Milan Nedeljković’s contract runs until 2031, signaling stability and long-term thinking in an industry where change is accelerating faster than ever. With this decision, BMW gains not just a new leader, but a chief executive who deeply understands the company’s culture, operations, and future challenges.
