One of the most significant players in the Hungarian automotive sector, Audi Hungaria’s plant in Győr, has reached another milestone: the company is preparing to launch the series production of a new electric motor generation.
Győr’s strategic role within the Volkswagen Group
Audi Hungaria has played a key role in the European automotive industry for more than three decades. The Győr facility has grown into one of the largest engine production plants in the world, producing millions of engines annually for various models within the Volkswagen Group.
The company employs more than 11,500 people, and in addition to vehicle production it also plays an important role in research and development as well as regional service activities. Through its direct operations and its supplier network, the plant contributes to the livelihoods of tens of thousands of Hungarian families, making it one of the most important industrial players in the Hungarian economy.
The introduction of a new electric motor production program further strengthens Győr’s position within the Volkswagen Group’s global manufacturing network and contributes to ensuring that Hungary remains actively involved in the development of future automotive technologies.
The transition toward electric mobility
The automotive industry is currently experiencing one of the most significant technological transitions in its history. The development and production of electric vehicles are becoming increasingly important in manufacturers’ strategies worldwide.
Audi Hungaria has been preparing for this transition for several years, gradually increasing the share of electric powertrains within its overall engine production in Győr. The introduction of the new electric motor series represents another important step in this process.
Preparations for production are already at an advanced stage. Production lines and equipment are currently being finalized, while engineering and manufacturing teams work closely together to ensure efficient production processes and high quality standards. At the same time, comprehensive testing and quality assurance procedures are being carried out to guarantee the reliability and performance of the new electric drive units.
A particularly important aspect of the project is that the Győr plant will not only assemble the electric motors but will also carry out several key elements of the manufacturing process locally. This includes components such as the rotor, the lamination stack and certain parts of the power electronics, significantly increasing the added value of the production carried out in Hungary.
The future of the Hungarian automotive industry
Audi’s investment in Győr clearly demonstrates that Hungary continues to play an important role in the European automotive manufacturing and supplier network. The plant’s successful operation not only benefits the local economy but also contributes significantly to the industrial development of the entire region.
The expansion of electric motor production indicates that the company sees long-term potential in its Hungarian manufacturing capacities. Investments of this kind not only create jobs but also support the development of technological expertise and innovation within the region.
In the coming years, the automotive industry will face further major transformations. Electric mobility, digitalization and advanced manufacturing technologies will play a decisive role in shaping the future of the sector. Audi Hungaria’s plant in Győr already demonstrates that it is capable of adapting to these challenges and continuing to play a significant role in the future of the automotive industry.
